Dr. Perzhinsky is an Associate Professor of Medicine at CMU College of Medicine and CMU Medical Education Partners. She earned her medical degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine and completed her residency in internal medicine at the University of Pittsburgh. She previously worked at the Ann Arbor VA and held a concomitant faculty appointment at the University of Michigan for approximately 5 years. During her tenure in Ann Arbor, she completed a master’s degree in research design and statistics at the University of Michigan School of Public Health and transitioned to fellowship at the VA’s National Center for Patient Safety. She completed both her master’s and an interprofessional patient safety fellowship while employed at the Ann Arbor VA. Prior to joining CMU, Dr. Perzhinsky was the Chief of Medicine and a hospitalist at the Aleda E. Lutz VAMC in Saginaw from 2013-2015, where she now holds a part-time appointment teaching students in the urgent care clinic, along with treating our nation’s Veterans. She served as the Associate Program Director of CMU's Internal Medicine Residency Training Program from 2015-2018. Her research interests include studying various aspects of teaching patient safety and understanding associated linkages of chronic health conditions, especially substance use disorders and mental health co-morbidity.
